Community Mission Program

The Campbell Church Community Mission Program (CCCMP) provides monetary benefits to the community at-large through support to qualified individuals or groups, normally in Lancaster and Northumberland Counties.   Approved projects support Christian values, community and family.

In 2007, CMP grants were provided to

  • Camp Hanover dam restoration (POJ church camp)
  • Tappahannock Presbyterian Church startup help
  • RW-C for purchase of treadmill for Parkinson's sufferers
  • Dream Fields (local youth activity) for baseball safety equipment.
  • The Haven in Warsaw to help fund a new home for battered and abused women and children.

Grant referrals come from friends, newspapers, and the congregation's personal knowledge of the community and its needs.  For more information contact the Moderator of the Campbell Church Community Mission Program at 804-438-6875 (church office).

Witness and Service

Witness and Service Ministry Group at Campbell Church enables the sharing of faith in word and deed and increases awareness for missions at home and abroad.  We follow the example of Jesus Christ by ministering to the needs of the poor, sick and powerless.  Several efforts below highlight our involvement in sharing the faith:

  • Support of a missionary in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ndesha) for world mission.
  • Support of local mission efforts.
  • Annual out of area mission support, most recently to Hurricane Katrina renovation on the Gulf Coast and a Habitat for Humanity building program in Paraguay.
  • lnteraction with local groups such as Interfaith, Church Resource Services and the Ministerial Association.
  • Helping the Area Agency on Aging by delivery of meals on wheels to those in need.
  • Preparation and delivery of Thanksgiving dinner to over 100 families in the local area.
  • Support to the Presbytery of the James Camp Hanover to provide for building repair for three years.
  • Financial support to many local community benevolence programs in the Northern Neck such as SAIF water, The Haven, Boy/Girl Scouts, Super 19, Free Health Clinics, Hospice, CASA, Healthy Beginnings, Food Bank and Prison Ministries.
  • A discretionary fund to address unanticipated needs within the congregation and in the community in order to help individuals who have encountered financial problems they cannot solve.
Agape Fund

Through bequests, Campbell Church became the steward of funds to further His Kingdom in this community in support of the vision and mission of the church.  The funds are used for projects that the church would otherwise be unable to undertake and are outside the normal mission and program of a church of this size.  The fund also supplements efforts of the Community Mission Program and the Witness and Service Ministry Group.  Four categories of support are available:

  • Intra-church programs to provide opportunities for sharing, more extensive education, and outreach to the community.
  • Capital improvements to improve or acquire land, buildings or major fixtures and furnishings for Campbell Church.
  • Outreach/Mission for use outside the church over and above what is possible by the congregation through the annual operating budget.
  • Funding assistance for individuals or groups in emergency or critical need.

Outreach and Evangelism

Members: Harry Wells (moderator), Marsha Nolan, Gretchen Bronson, Lynne Engstrom, Jane Hopwood, Jim Thorsen, Kimberly Clark, Clay Macaulay

Meeting Frequency: This is a new Ministry Group that meets approximately monthly at CPMC.

Background: The Outreach-Evangelism Task Group was formed by a January 2008 Offsite Session meeting. During the meeting the Elders on Session decided that the spiritual mission of Campbell would be more efficiently supported with targeted approaches to spread the word of the Gospel in our community. This is a very enthusiastic outreach group.

Purpose: The Task Group supports Campbell’s Mission and Vision Statement – Called by Christ to serve, share our faith, and live out God’s love in the world. To support this Mission and Vision, this ministry group was formed to introduce new residents in the community, and the un-churched to our traditional services at 11:00 AM on Sundays and the new casual format 9:30 Good NEWS service.

What do we do? O/E is an action packed small but mighty group that has fun doing acts of kindness in the community. We are at the Irvington and Kilmarnock Farmers markets, with shade, chairs, water, and short bread or trail mix, we maintain the church signs so folks from out of the area can find Weems, we make and distribute welcome baskets, wear and sell Campbell T-Shirts, participate in the annual Weems yard sale, place advertisements for Campbell in the Rappahannock Record and the list goes on. We are the front line of community kindness ambassadors for the church and we would love for you to attend a meeting to share the energy and love of doing Christ’s work.

How can you participate? The task group is open to anyone who wants to help share the love of Jesus Christ. Contact the church office at 804-438-6875, Harry Wells or any member of the Ministry group and we will welcome you to our team with great joy.
